Life’s Fine Print

When I tugged this T-shirt over my head, a big “Oh, I see” moment hit—Life’s available for a limited time only. I already had the concept of “one to a customer” and knew well that part about “subject to change.” But somehow I didn’t want to accept that days would actually be numbered.

I began to think about all the words we have to describe a span of time: second, minute, hour, day, week, month, season, year, decade, quarter-century, half-century, century, millennium, period, epoch, age, era.

I wondered what term would be used to name the sum of my days and how, during that time, I would live life to the fullest.

A Lifetime Collection of Moments

In those musings, I landed on the real truth—no matter what the span, life is a collection of moments, and the idea is to gather a multitude of moments to cherish. Among these are “Oh, I see” moments that give you an insight—any kind of insight, from the small and practical to the epiphany.

The more “Oh, I see” moments you have, the more likely you are to avoid “damages arising from use or misuse” of life. The more you avoid such damages, the more moments you have to cherish.

That’s when I got the idea to launch the OIC Moments blog.

  • Here we will highlight the discoveries that people make.
  • We’ll connect you to positive, creative ideas and diverse cultures.
  • We’ll pique your curiosity.
  • We will encourage you to see through your imagination and with different perspectives to arrive at “Oh, I see” moments of your own.

What Makes an OIC Moment?

Very few OIC moments are epiphanies, but all lead to worthwhile insights in life, the kind that make life better. Some insights may be plain and practical, getting a little problem behind you.

For example, you know how pancake batter can spill out all over the pan? Well, if you reuse an old catsup bottle, you can get round pancakes that stack nicely one on top of the other.

Other OIC moments may remind you to look deeper until you see more of life.

Still others may be even more profound, causing you to make an important connection or a U-turn because you see life in a new way.

In fact, when you say, “Oh, I see!” about something everyday, you keep the mind growing and the eyes seeing farther and farther into the world. That’s our goal.

Such moments occur so frequently across the world that even a digital ticker, recording each successive occurrence, couldn’t keep up. But we’ll try. We hope you stop by often and pocket OIC moments for living life to the fullest. Hey, perhaps they will even increase your mileage!
